Description
Centipede grass (scientific name: Eremochloa ciliaris (Linn.) Merr.) is a perennial plant of the genus Centipede grass in the grass family. The culms are densely clustered, slender and erect, the leaf sheaths are compressed and straddle each other, the sheath mouth is ciliated; the tongue is membranous, very short, and truncated; the leaves are often erect, and the apex is acuminate. The racemes are solitary, often bowed, and the internodes of the total stalk and rachis of the inflorescence are puberulent. The sessile spikelets are ovate, imbricate and arranged on one side of the raceme axis; the first glume is thick and papery, the top is pointed, wingless, and the spines are slightly rough; the back is densely pilose or puberulent; the second glume is thick Membranous, with narrow wings under the ridge; the first floret is male, the lemma is blunt at the apex, the lemma is narrower, and the second floret is bisexual or female; the anthers are larger and the stigma is yellowish brown. The caryopsis are oblong, with stalked spikelets completely degenerated, only long pointed spikelets remain, and the base implants are pilose. Flower and fruit period in summer and autumn.
